Battle Report – Federation vs Zeon Aces 2000pts

This is a battle report using the MechaStellar VER9.2 Rules with units from Mobile Suit Gundam.

Narrative

For this game the players said since it involves so many aces on each side of the battlefield it must be a simulation being conducted by the Federation Survey Service (FSS) of 0091. Naturally we had the FA Gundam Type B piloted by Red Wayline (Led Wayline) from the MSV-R Return of Johnny Ridden manga.

Round 1

Brennis Ox tags Lydo Wolf’s GM Sniper II with his beam cannon from across the map, burning off Momentum

Lydo wolf returns fire but due to Breniss Lucky evade roll he is only burning Momentum due to Make it Count + High Ground.  Lydo then drops down out of LOS but runs into one of M’Quves hide bombs for 800DMG.

Char is up next, three times as fast and boosting up the midfield he fires his beam rifle at the Full Armor Gundam Type B chipping away at its HP and burning Momentum as its pilot fails some easy armor saves.

The FA Gundam returns fire with an antiship missile at M’Quve’s Gyan who hastily avoids it, and its beam rifle and bazooka at Char whose superior evade keeps him out of trouble.

Meanwhile the Kampfer moves up midfield and fires its bazooka at Blue Destiny Unit 01 before retreating.  BD1 follows and its machinegun chips off 200HP off the Kampfers perilously low HP.

The Gouf Custom is next, its shield gatling deals 1000 DMG to the GM Sniper Ground type.  It returns fire and its beam sniper nearly goes through the cockpit of the Gouf Custom demolishing the enemy Momentum pool.

A Dom fires another bazooka round at BD3 who evades it.

Guntank used indirect fire and flattens a Zaku II

Another Zaku II moves up the flank to reinforce Kampfer and Gouf Custom

Guncannon walks into one of M’Quves hide bombs (800 DMG) then uses Indirect Fire on M’Quve’s Gyan burning through their last Momentum.  M’Quve moves up to the midfield behind LOS blocking cover.

Amuro moves up in the Gundam with Fearsome he chooses +100 DMG this turn and fires his twin bazookas at CHAR!, out of Momentum he has no choice but to take 1600 DMG when Amuro uses the Make it Count skill.

The last two Zakus press forward while the GM Custom fires its rifle at Char chipping away another 200 HP.

Shin Matsunaga takes aim at the only visible target but Amuo proves too nimble and evades all but 2 hits, the Luna Titanium resists the glancing beam hit.

End of Round Momentum Federation 1, Zeon 1

Round 2

Zeon seizes initiative and the Gouf Custom activates with its few HP remaining it fires its Shield Gatling killing the GM Sniper then retreats behind LOS cover in the center.

A Guntank lays down indirect fire on M’Quve burning off the recently gained Momentum for destroying a unit.

M’Quve uses Full Throttle and makes it into melee with Amuro’s Gundam.

CLASH  M’Quve ATK 8 dice vs Amuro DEF4 dice.  5 Hits get through for 1500 DMG, once again the Luna Titanium proves superior and the Gundam fails no armor saves.

Counterattack  Amuro ATK 4 dice+1Hit vs M’Quve DEF 4 dice+1 Block.  4 Hits vs 5 Blocks, Amuro uses the Make it Count Skill to bring his to 6 hits while M’Quve uses a Momentum to bring him to 6 Blocks.  Amuro fails to injure M’Quve who then scores a finishing blow for another 1000 DMG.

Amuro’s turn, he goes all in on melee with Fearsome providing +100 DMG this turn.

CLASH  Amuro 10 dice+1 Hit vs M’Quve 10 dice+1 Block.

7 Hits vs 5 Blocks, Amuro uses the Make it Count Skill to bring it to 9 Hits.

M’Quve needs to pass all 3 armor saves to survive.  [7,7,9] so close yet so far.  Off goes his head.

Not finished yet Amuro moves forward and fires his twin bazookas at CHAR!

Thanks to 3x as fast and Newtype Char’s rerolls allow him to evade all the bazooka shots.

(In hindsight is Amuro had saved the Make it Count skill he could have finished Char off right here, ah well)

Char fires his beam rifle at Amuro, Make it Count forces two armor saves with the RX-78-2 once again passes like a champ.  Char then rushes into melee to finish him off.  A fantastic melee roll results in 10 Hits vs 1 Block.

Fortunately Amuro has the Unyielding commander trait and survives with 1 HP.

His counterattack has 5 Hits while Char’s shield provides 1 block.

Amuro slices off the Gelgoogs arm and Char is forced to flee.

Shin Matsunaga takes aim and fires at Amuro

The Full Armor Gundam Type B strides forward and unleashes a vengeful salvo of missiles and beams.  Matsunaga burns momentum to avoid the antiship missile, while Breniss Ox burns Momentum to avoid the triple beam rifle.  The Zaku II never stood a chance.

“Should have killed me when you had the chance” shouts Brennis Ox, the incredible shot and instructor of the Chimera Corps unloads with his bazooka and missile pod in rapid fire range, blowing through the Federation Momentum and dealing 4400 damage to the Full Armor Gundam.

Hayato’s Guncannon takes the high ground and tries to avenge Amuro attacking Shin Matsunaga’s Gelgoog Jager, unfortunately he proves Untouchable and gains +8 blocks this turn foiling Hayato’s attempt.

A Zaku II grunt has his moment to shine firing at Guncannon on his high ground perch dealing 1000 DMG.

Low on momentum Lydo wolf moves to support BD1, it’s sniper rifle catches a Zaku II within Sensors range and obliterates it with critical hits.

The Kampfer sees a GM Sniper II and can’t resist, it pushes forward and uses its twin bazookas, scoring 700 DMG.  It’s shotgun finished it off.  The Kampfer then retreats.

(In hindsight it would have been smart to burn that last Momentum to prevent all the Bazooka hits)

But not far enough to escape Blue Destiny Unit 01, its machine gun opens up and you hate to see a roll like that but with four 1s visible and a couple more hits the Kampfer was reduced to swiss cheese.

The Dom fires a bazooka shot then retreats behind LOS cover.  The GM Custom moves up to the midfield and fires its rifle but cover protects the Gelgoog cannon.

End of Round Momentum Federation 4, Zeon 4

Round 3

Zeon wins initiative again.  The Gouf custom goes first.  The player is torn between having an awesome battle with Blue Destiny, or going after that Guncannon.  She eventually decides that Norris Packard was a man who always had his eyes on the strategic objectives and so goes for the Guncannon using the rocket anchor to pull himself.

Norris is then gunned down by a GM Custom.

Brennis Ox moves forward and his Gelgoog cannon drops the Full Armor Gundam before moving behind midfield cover.

Guntank uses IDF on a Zaku who easily evades it.  The Zaku advances.

Unfortunately for the Dom underestimated Blue Destiny’s movement and found himself cleaved by a beam saber.

That did however open up a shot for the Gelgoog Jager who dished out 900 DMG to BD1 while EXAM activates.

End of Round Momentum  Federation 4, Zeon 7

Round 4

The Federation finally catches a break and goes first.  The GM Custom makes a daring attack dealing 1400 DMG to the Gelgoog Cannon then retreats behind LOS cover.  The Gelgoog Cannon then takes the high ground and obliterates the GM Custom.

Last round the Gelgoog Jager had fled, BD1 takes his high ground perch and fires downward on him for 800 DMG.

The Jager fires back scoring one more hit as the beam grazes BD1s shield and shoulder.

The last Zaku moves into RF range and attacks BD1 burning through their Momentum.

The guntank activates and uses IDF on the Gelgoog Jager.  2 Hits which they take, that way they can use their 7 Momentum for Seize the day.

Breniss Ox whirls around and shoots BD1 from across the map, burning through Momentum the Bazooka still scores 2 Hits bringing BD1 down to his last few HP.  Thankfully he evades the follow-on beamcannon.  The Gelgoog Cannon stalks forward towars the Guntank.

End of Round Momentum  Federation 1  Zeon 1

Round 5

Federation is up first again.  They go for a bold strategy, let’s see if it works.

Guntank lands a critical hit and blows up Breniss Ox.  Now let’s see if the BD1 can survive another round of shooting.

A good evade roll plus EXAM allows him to block 5 Hits from the Gelgoog Jager who disappears from view.

BD1 is out of Momentum and so can’t get a bonus action. He opts for cleaving through a Zaku II grunt although he nearly dies to Overwatch.

And that’s the end of the game.
