Here we have a gameplay example for MechaStellar VER9.5 using 1/144 scale Gundam figure. On one side we have Kamille’s Zeta Gundam and Kai’s Guncannon, on the other we have the unlikely teamup of Garrod’s Gundam X (GX-9900) and Norris Packard Gouf Custom. Read on below the break for Round 2.

Round 2
Round 2 Starting Momentum ZetaCannon = 6 | Gouf GX = 3
Kai’s Turn
Kai and his Guncannon are up first this turn. Expecting a brutal melee combat next turn he decides to lay down some heavy fire on the Gouf knowing he won’t be able to outmaneuver him. Kai considers getting closer for rapid fire and target lock but realizes he does not want to make melee any easier for the Gouf Custom.
This close though the beam rifle is the best choice. Kai chooses Bullseye (+Crit Range)
- Beam Rifle 6d10 = [1,2,2,6,7,9] = 2 Hits + 1 Crit = 4 Hits
- With a surplus of Momentum Kai uses [M-3] for Valor and gains +5 Hits
- The Guncannon gives a shooting bonus of +5 Hits
- Total = 4+5+5 = 14 Hits
Norris chooses Dodge once more (+1 Crit Range) as a reminder Norris’ upgrade gives him a permanent +1 Crit range on ATK & DEF.
- He rolls 6d10 for evade defense. = [2,3,4,4,6,8,10] = 1 DEF + 2 Crits = 5 DEF
- Norris uses Focus [M-1] to Defend on a 3+ = +3 DEF
- The Gouf Custom gets +5 DEF on Evade
- Total = 5 + 3 + 5 = 13 DEF
There is 1 Unblocked Hit which deals 300 DMG and forces an Armor Save at PEN 6. The Gouf rolls a 4, and the beam pierces through dealing another 1000 DMG.
Gouf Custom HP 1800/3700
Afterwards, Kai moves to the edge of the battlefield. Since they are no longer at [M>5] retreating does not penalize Kai’s discretion.
Also at the end of their turn Kai uses the Trust command to regain 2d10x100 HP = [5,5] = 1000 HP.
Guncannon’s HP = 3100 / 4500
End of Turn Momentum – EOT [M] Zeta Cannon 3 Gouf X 2

Designer’s Note: Feel free to nudge terrain to fit your models, this is a garagehammer game where the goal is fun and memorable moments, don’t miss out on that because your models spiky bits are in the way
Now it’s Norris’ turn.
After moving he is 13″ away from Guncannon. Moving closer gives [M+1] from a Momentum shift, he could use this with his pilot trait to gain HP instead, but right now they are short on Momentum.
Norris being a thinking player, stops for a moment and considers his options. He could use Accelerate to move again followed by a Rocket Anchor to pull himself into melee with Guncannon, but there’s a reasonable chance of failure if Kai get’s lucky and avoids the rocket anchors pull. He could also play it safe and just unload with the Gatling at close range while the tall building on his left currently obscures LOS from Zeta Gundam.
He decides to take the gamble. Zeal [M-2] for +2 Combat Actions (3 Total)
- Accelerate (1 Combat Action) = Move 7″, Guncannon is 6″ away, Engagement (Melee) range is 4″
- Before the attack Norris once again uses his Fierce Reputation to force 2x Morale Saves vs Rout on Kai.
- Kai’s Morale is a 6+ he rolls [8,10]. Elated by this, the player cheers!
- Rocket Anchor with Bullseye (Crit 8++)
- 10d10 = [2,2,3,3,5,6,7,7,8,10] = 4 Hits + 2 Crits = 8 Hits
- Norris decides to skip Focus and save the Momentum
- The Gouf gains +5 bonus Hits with it’s Rocket Anchor
- Total = 13 Hits
- 10d10 = [2,2,3,3,5,6,7,7,8,10] = 4 Hits + 2 Crits = 8 Hits
- Kai tries to Dodge (Crit 9++)
- 8d10 = [2,2,4,4,5,7,9,10] = 2 DEF + 2 Crits = 6 DEF
- Kai chooses not to use Focus, he’s not going to be avoiding this one..
- Kai’s pilot trait gives +1 DEF.
- The slow and steady Guncannon gets an Evade bonus of +1 DEF
- Cover gives +2 DEF
- Total = 10 DEF
- 8d10 = [2,2,4,4,5,7,9,10] = 2 DEF + 2 Crits = 6 DEF
- There are 3 Unblocked hits which would trigger 3 Armor Saves. Each failed save would let Norris pull himself 3″ closer to Kai. This close Kai would have to pass all 3.
Kai does have [M=3] so he could use Flash for +5 DEF. That would prevent melee. The player mulls it over and describes to their opponent describing Kai’s exceptional piloting skills swatting the rocket anchor out of the air….no, wait this is Kai we’re talking about. Instead he quickly shrinks back and hides behind cover as the rocket anchor rips out a chunk of concrete instead.
But in doing so that would drain a lot of Momentum and leave nothing for Zeta Gundam. The player weighs their decisions and eventually decides to use Flash to keep Kai out of melee. Good luck Zeta Gundam!
Well, Norris still has that last combat action. He shoots the shield gatling in consolation.
- Norris fires the Gatling (9d10) he has a natural Crit range of 9++.
- This close he gets Rapid Fire (+3 Hits) and Target Lock (Normally +1 Shot, but +1 Hit with weapons that can auto-hit like a gatling gun) and Barrage (Also +1 Hit for the same reason)
- 9d10 = [2,2,3,4,4,5,8, 9, 10] = 2 Hits + 2 Crits = 6 Hits
- As tempting as it is, Norris skips the Focus action, they’ve only got [M=2] left
- Barrage (+1), Target Lock (+1) & Rapid Fire +3 Hits = +5 Hits
- The Gouf gives a shooting bonus of +3 Hits
- Total = 6+5+3 = 14 Hits
- 9d10 = [2,2,3,4,4,5,8, 9, 10] = 2 Hits + 2 Crits = 6 Hits
- Kai chooses Dodge (Crit 9++)
- 8d10 = [2,3,3,3,4,4,7,8] = 2 DEF
- Unfortunately they are out of Momentum and cannot use Flash to defend on a 3+. The player wonders if maybe 2 Valors was 2 too many.
- On Evade Guncannon gives +1 DEF
- It’s Luna Titanium Armor gives +1 DEF vs [K]inetic weapons
- Kai’s pilot trait gives +1 DEF
- Cover gives +2 DEF
- It survives on a 2+ vs the DMG 200 weapon with a [4]
- Total = 2+1+1+1+2 = 7 DEF
- 8d10 = [2,3,3,3,4,4,7,8] = 2 DEF
- There are 7 Unblocked Hits dealing 200 each = 1400 DMG
- Norris also strikes a Finishing Blow for +1000 DMG
Guncannon takes 2900 DMG = HP 700/4500
“Close call!” breathes Kai with a sigh of relief, “this old Guncannon always knew how to take a beating and keep going” he says to Reccoa.
The Gouf Custom will also use Trust at the end of their turn to recover 2d10x100 HP = [3,4] = 700HP
Gouf Custom HP 2500/3700
EOT M Zeta Cannon 0 Gouf X 2

Kamille’s turn.
Zeta Gundam transforms and takes advantage of its superior mobility to move across the board and get the Gouf Custom within Rapid Fire and Target Lock range. Moving forward gives a Momentum Shift for [M+1].
Designer’s Note: If you and your opponent really like transforming and posing your models feel free to transform them but don’t feel obligated too. MechaStellar is a game and you may not have the time to go through a time consuming transformation process. In that case make sure your opponent knows they are transformed. We like to use a token as a reminder, in this case using the 1/400 Zeta Gundam in waverider mode.)
- Zeta’s Beam Rifle (6d10) in Rapid Fire range (+1 Shot), they use Barrage (+1 Shot) and have Target Lock (+1 Shot)
- 9d10 = [1,3,4,4,5,7,7,7,10] = 4 Hits + 1 Crit = 6 Hits
- Kamille uses Focus [M-1] to Hit on a 3+ = +3 Hits
- Zeta Gundam gives a bonus +8 Hits
- Kamille’s trait gives +2 Hits (+2 Crits with Challenge)
- Total = 19 Hits
- Norris chooses Dodge (8++) and evades with 6d10 = [3,3,5,7,8,9] = 2 DEF + 2 Crits = 6 DEF
- Norris uses Focus to defend on a 3+ = +2 DEF
- The Gouf and its Shield give a bonus +5 DEF
- Total = 13 DEF
- There are 6 unblocked Hits dealing 300 DMG each = 1800 DMG
- There are 5 Armor Saves vs PEN 6.
- (You roll 1 Armor Save per hit but they are capped at 5)
- This is likely going to be a very lethal shot
- Norris rolls [8,8,8,10,10] = The player jumps and cheers!
- There are 5 Armor Saves vs PEN 6.
Gouf Custom HP = 700 / 3700
Norris luckily escapes again this turn, the beam resistant coating on his shield saving his life more times than he can count.

Kamille then uses the rest of their transformed high movement and puts the Gouf in a pincer attack for next round while placing buildings in the way of the GX behind him.
EOT M Zeta Cannon 0 Gouf X 1

Garrod’s Turn
Garrod considers his options, moving either direction won’t give him good LOS on Kamille to fire, but he has a plan.
He moves twice towards a nearby building, the movement triggers a Momentum shift for [M+1]. Garrod uses Zeal [M-2] for +2 Combat Actions. The first is used on melee.
Then he strikes the building with his beam saber. Since he’s targeting it directly it has to roll FIVE armor saves vs DMG 400. They roll [2,4,5,8,9] that 2 causes the abandoned Jaburo facility to go down. Now he has clear LOS and Target Lock on Zeta Gundam.
More importantly he’s shooting Kamille from behind which triggers a Blindside Attack. Blindside gives Tactical Advantage and it also nullifies the Shield Bonus by giving you bonus Hits equal to the Shield bonus. In Zeta Gundam’s case it has an [S1] Shield so Blindside gives a bonus +1 Hit on top of Tactical Advantage.

Garrod uses his 2nd Combat Action to shoot.
- Garrod shoots the GX Shield Rifle (6d10) he chooses Barrage (+1 Shot) and he’s in Rapid Fire range for (+1 Shot) and Target Lock (+1 Shot)
- Shield Rifle 9d10 = [2,2,2,4,4,6,7,7,10] = 3 Hits + 1 Crit = 5 Hits
- The GX-9900 gives a shooting bonus of +7 Hits
- Tactical Advantage gives +2 Hits and Blindside gives a bonus +1 Hit
- Total = 5+7+2+1 = 15 Hits
- Kamille in the Zeta Gundam (Evade 8d10) chooses to Dodge (9++), while he didn’t see the foe his sensors picked it up (and give a +1 die Target Lock bonus) now it’s only a matter if Kamille’s reflexes are fast enough.
- 9d10 = [2,3,4,4,5,6,6,8,9] = 4 DEF + 1 Crits = 6 DEF
- Still out of Momentum they can’t take advantage of Focus
- Zeta Gundam uses Boost to reroll the [3,4,4] but unfortunately gets [1,1,3]
- On Evade Zeta Gundam gives a bonus +7 DEF
- Total = 13 DEF
- 9d10 = [2,3,4,4,5,6,6,8,9] = 4 DEF + 1 Crits = 6 DEF
- There are 2 Unblocked Hits dealing 300 DMG each and 2 Armor Saves at PEN 7.
- Zeta Gundam rolls [2,8] = failing one save they take another 1000 DMG.
- Total 1600 DMG
Zeta Gundam HP was previously 2800/4100, now it is 1200/4100.
Garrod uses his leftover movement to move slightly backwards and finally cap the 2nd Control Point (CP)
EOT [M] Zeta Cannon 0 Gouf X 0
End of Round [M]
- Both Zeta Cannon and Gouf GX both control 2 CPs and each get [M+4]
- EOR [M] Zeta Cannon 4 Gouf X 4
