MechaStellar – Year in Review 2021

2021 has been a great year for MechaStellar so far. It marks the release of Version 7 which has been the most fun to play with since Version 2. As we continue to work on Version 8 we wanted to take a look back and be thankful for what we were able to accomplish in the last year.

Merry Christmas

We’ve been very busy working on a major update that will make Pilot more important for your favorite units as well as a points rebalance that affects how Performance and Pilot contribute to a units overall points cost. This one is a significant overhaul so I’d like a few more weeks to get some testing in before we release it. Fortunately, the holidays are approaching so I’ll have more time to complete that then we’ll continue with roster updates for Gundam & Getter Robo.

In the interim we are releasing a Narrative Mission Pack for Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket in honor of the Christmas Season. Merry Christmas!

MechaStellar – Unit Roster Update 03DEC21

This week’s update we are releasing units from a new Mecha series, Getter Robo, a foundational show for the Mecha genre by Ken Ishikawa.  With both an anime and manga debuting in the early 70s it was the first Mecha series to showcase separate machines combining into a single Super Robot, this popular formula would later become a common staple for the genre.  It also serves as a major inspiration for the ever popular Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

[MS] – Balance Update

As we’ve been tweaking certain rules we also like to examine the interactions between units to verify there’s still a healthy balance for the different models released. While MechaStellar uses a d10 system which has more variance than a d6, we always strive to keep units from being to extreme where they can dodge on 2+ for instance, or never be hurt in Melee since that wouldn’t be very fun from a gameplay perspective. In this post we’ll go a bit more in depth on the rationale for the forthcoming changes.

2023 Update – Here are some updated photographs for various kinds of Getter Robo Minis.

On this page we’re going to discuss the different miniatures available for Getter Robo to be used with the MechaStellar Wargame Rules.

When playing MechaStellar we advise you to pick either a Versus movie scale (all figures are roughly the same height) or an approximate scale where some very large robots (i.e. 100+ meter robots like Daitarn 3 or Ideon) are represented by larger figures while everything else is around the same height. You can read more about the recommended size and scale here.

If you are interested in the Getter Robo series read over this post here

[MS] – Evangelion Miniatures

On this page we’re going to discuss the different miniatures available for Evangelion to be used with the MechaStellar Wargame Rules.

Continuing from our last post this one we’ll look at the Evangelion miniatures available at a small scale. We’ll be looking at two kinds, the articulated models found in Gashapon (toy capsule machines) as well as the Seika pencil sharpeners. We’ll also look at some larger figures that are 5″ or taller such as the very common Revoltech figures.

[MS] – Gundam Miniatures 1/400 & 1/300

This is an older post, for the updated one please click on this link.

Continuing from our last post this one we’ll look at the Gundam miniatures available. This post will focus on Gundam models at the 1/400 & 1/300 scale. The 1/400 line of Gundam minis that ran from 2004 to 2010 and with an amazing wide array of models released for both Universal Century (UC) and Alternate Universes (AU).

In the UC range it covered everything from the original Mobile Suit Gundam (0079) until Unicorn (0096) with a few units being produced for F91 and Victory Gundam. For AU it had major releases for Gundam SEED and Gundam Wing as well as models for the main mobile suits of G Gundam, Gundam X, Turn A Gundam and Gundam 00. The standard 1/400 has a simple black base the figure stands on, there is also a series called Mini Figure Select or M.F.S. that is also 1/400 scale and is either painted on a white base or metallic on a black base as seen above.
