Deathscythe is an iconic fan favorite Gundam piloted by Duo Maxwell. Duo is the first to meet Heero and have lending him a hand later regrets it when Heero liberates parts from Deathscythe to repair Wing and carry out his mission. A wise-cracking level-headed pilot he is often the voice of reason the audience can relate to. His Gundam is one of the more unique designs representing a grim reaper a mantle Duo is happy to take up. Below are some tactics if you plan on using them in a Gundam Tabletop game or a SRW Tabletop game with the MechaStellar ruleset.
Deathscythe is an outstanding stealth unit that is exceptionally lethal in Melee combat. It possesses a high movement characteristic, a hyper jammer and of course a deadly beam scythe. It also possesses a short range Buster Shield it can fire unexpectedly at a nearby foe. Deathscythe works best in a pair as we often see in the show, having a primary unit on the battlefield allows you to hold Deathscythe in reserve and them Ambush it at the end of the round where your opponent is most weak. After the initial blitz Deathscythe’s Hyper Jammer helps it resist rapid fire by imposing an accuracy penalty on units within Sensors range.
For Duo he has the standard “Gundam Pilot” trait which gives him +1 Momentum per round. This trait is meant to call out the fact the Gundam Pilots from Wing are notoriously skilled beyond comparison and can accomplish few others can. The Momentum boost also allows them to use Pilot Skills more often and you’ll want to use Tear through the Ranks often with Deathscythe. Duo’s second trait, Cool under fire is the equivalent of the Elusive trait. Deathscythe operates best at Close range and you’re opponent will find it difficult to bring it down.
