[MS] Design Goals VER 8 – Death Rays

One thing we’ve been able to play around with recently have been Death Rays, the catch-all weapon profile for any Area of Effect type of attack that typically is in a line. Since we’ve been drafting up profiles for Super Robot style shows like Getter Robo we’ve been able to use them more often. For a game like MechaStellar we always try to thread the needle by keeping a profile general enough that it can be used by either a Super Robot or a Real Robot show, with the latest iteration of the Death Ray type weapon we get closer to that goal.

[MS] Design Goals VER 8 – Commands

While we were working on the revisions to Pilot Level we reexamined Commands that affected only a single model and especially those reserved for Ace Pilots and moved them over to the new and improved Pilot Skills section. After that we looked at our remaining Commands and modified them to affect multiple units as well as adding additional ones. Below are some examples below the break.

[MS] – Pacific Rim Extinction Miniatures

Just a quick update, since we’ve been working on MechaStellar a new game for Pacific Rim has come out of kickstarter called Pacific Rim Extinction. The models are very nice, although a bit pricey and are the perfect scale if you want your Jaegers to tower over Mobile Suits while being the same height as an Evangelion. Below are some more comparison photos. We’ll be adding these to the original model post as well.

MechaStellar – Year in Review 2021

2021 has been a great year for MechaStellar so far. It marks the release of Version 7 which has been the most fun to play with since Version 2. As we continue to work on Version 8 we wanted to take a look back and be thankful for what we were able to accomplish in the last year.

Merry Christmas

We’ve been very busy working on a major update that will make Pilot more important for your favorite units as well as a points rebalance that affects how Performance and Pilot contribute to a units overall points cost. This one is a significant overhaul so I’d like a few more weeks to get some testing in before we release it. Fortunately, the holidays are approaching so I’ll have more time to complete that then we’ll continue with roster updates for Gundam & Getter Robo.

In the interim we are releasing a Narrative Mission Pack for Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket in honor of the Christmas Season. Merry Christmas!

[MS] Unit Roster Update 19NOV21

For this week’s update will focus on a balance update for both points and combat stats like Shooting & Evade.  There is also one new unit added to the roster, the GM Land Combat type as well as two GM Kai variants.  Next week we’ll be releasing more Zeon amphibious units. All unit profile updates can be found on the downloads page here.

[MS] – Balance Update

As we’ve been tweaking certain rules we also like to examine the interactions between units to verify there’s still a healthy balance for the different models released. While MechaStellar uses a d10 system which has more variance than a d6, we always strive to keep units from being to extreme where they can dodge on 2+ for instance, or never be hurt in Melee since that wouldn’t be very fun from a gameplay perspective. In this post we’ll go a bit more in depth on the rationale for the forthcoming changes.
