A variant of the iconic Gelgoog the Marine debuted in 0083 Stardust Memory. A priceless antique from 0079 so far gone from routine maintenance it had to abandon the Gelgoog Beam Rifle in favor of a machine gun. GP04 Gerbera is a cancelled prototype after the overhaul of the GP01 into the GP01-Fb. Since the two units would now be filling similar roles, the GP04 was deemed redundant and design efforts were halted. Conveniently, this allowed Anaheim Electronics (AE) the opportunity to play both sides of the conflict and ship the mostly complete unit to Zeon’s Cima Garahau who then modified it into the GP04 Gerbera Tetra which we see on screen.

For this month’s MechaStellar update we are featuring units from Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. This is an OVA series from the 90s with very detailed mechanical designs and gorgeous animation for Mobile Suit dogfighting. With a top notch opening song reminiscent of Highway to the Danger Zone many have called this Gundam’s version of Top Gun.

Tallgeese is a mothballed prototype that was brought back into operational status in order to fight the five Gundams that landed on earth as part of Operation Meteor. Tallgeese was originally deemed too difficult and dangerous to use until it was finally mastered by Zech’s Merquise. Shenlong Gundam (Nataku) piloted by Wufei Chang is a close range dueling Gundam. Armed with a beam naginata and some rather unique arm mounted dragon weapon it can extend to reach out and crush an opponent or unleash a gout of flame on its enemies. Playing as Shenlong requires you to advance into melee range as quickly as you can to start devastating the enemy forces. Gundam Heavyarms piloted by the mysterious Trowa Barton is the fire support for the Gundam team. Possessing exceptional armor and an overwhelming amount of firepower and enough actions to use them all in short order. Playing as Heavyarms will require you to be judicious about your weapon use so you don’t run out too quickly, or use them too little and get overwhelmed by the enemy.
