[MS] Wing Gundam – Tactics

The eponymous Wing Gundam is the first Gundam we see in Gundam Wing.  In breaking with formula it’s the first time we see a Gundam lose in the opening episode where it is defeated by Zechs Merquise using a Leo Old Type.  Zech’s uses the Leo to grapple with Wing before plummeting through the atmosphere and into the ocean, where they are astonished that both the mobile suit and the pilot survive. Below are some tactics if you plan on using them in a Gundam Tabletop game or a SRW Tabletop game with the MechaStellar ruleset.

[MS] Big O Miniatures

On this page we’re going to discuss the different miniatures available for Big O to be used with the MechaStellar Wargame Rules.

When playing MechaStellar we advise you to pick either a Versus movie scale (all figures are roughly the same height) or an approximate scale where some very large robots (i.e. 100+ meter robots like Daitarn 3 or Ideon) are represented by larger figures while everything else is around the same height. You can read more about the recommended size and scale here.

For ‘The Big O’ mecha-anime there are a few options out there for miniatures. There are a few Big O models released as part of Super Robot Gashapon series that also includes series like Getter Robo, Gaiking and Mazinger Z. For our games we are using Big O trading figures produced by Kotobukiya. If you want to use a larger figure try to get one of the 7″ action figures from the 2000s or the more recent 8″ moderoid model kit.

[MS] Design Goals VER 8 – Death Rays

One thing we’ve been able to play around with recently have been Death Rays, the catch-all weapon profile for any Area of Effect type of attack that typically is in a line. Since we’ve been drafting up profiles for Super Robot style shows like Getter Robo we’ve been able to use them more often. For a game like MechaStellar we always try to thread the needle by keeping a profile general enough that it can be used by either a Super Robot or a Real Robot show, with the latest iteration of the Death Ray type weapon we get closer to that goal.

[MS] Design Goals VER 8 – Point Costs

Points updates are pretty common when it comes to wargames, you don’t want a unit to be too powerful while being undercosted otherwise you wind up with some very uneven games. For MechaStellar we adjust points during each Version and on occasion will make a large adjustment between editions. For Version 8 the biggest changes were to Pilot & Performance cost.
